      ✦ WHY CONTEXT CHANGES EVERYTHING

Many Christians have heard these words

      countless times.

Almost none of them know what those words actually mean.

"My God, my God, why have you forsaken me."

      — PSALM 22:1

At first glance, those words sound like a cry of abandonment. But Psalm 22 tells a much bigger story. Written centuries before the crucifixion, the psalm begins with suffering but ends with trust, hope, and the faithfulness of God.

Without context, it’s easy to miss the deeper meaning. With context, the passage reveals a powerful reminder that even in moments of suffering, God’s purposes are still unfolding.

      ⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯

What makes Psalm 22 so fascinating is when it was written. Centuries before the crucifixion, David wrote these words:

"I can count all my bones... they divide my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing."

      — Psalm 22:17–18

Crucifixion did not exist in its Roman form when these words were written. David could not have known the events that would unfold centuries later. Yet there they are recorded in the Hebrew Scriptures long before the crucifixion of Jesus.

This is why context matters. The deeper you look, the more extraordinary the connections become.

      ⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯

And this is where the story takes a deeper turn.

Psalm 22 does not end in agony. The chapter closes with a powerful declaration of victory and God's faithfulness. What begins as a cry of suffering ends in redemption.

For many Christians, that makes Jesus' final words on the cross — "It is finished" — even more meaningful.

Jesus was not pointing only to the opening verse of Psalm 22. He was pointing to the entire chapter. Not a story of defeat. A story of victory. And most believers have never been taught to read it that way.

      ⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯

      ✦ HERE'S THE IMPORTANT PART

I'm not going to tell you that exact insight is printed on the Psalm 22 page of our guide. It isn't

What each page does provide is the context needed to understand a book of the Bible more clearly who wrote it, why it was written, who it was written to, and the major themes running throughout it.

Because moments like the one you just experienced aren't hidden from ordinary believers. They're already there in the text itself.

Sometimes, all you need is the context to see what has been there all along.

And Psalm 22 is only one example. Throughout Scripture, similar connections appear again and again:

check_circle The crimson worm in Psalm 22:6 one of many remarkable details that takes on new meaning when viewed through its biblical context.

      ⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯

check_circle The ram on Mount Moriah in Genesis 22 one of the Bible's most memorable images of provision, sacrifice, and redemption.

      ⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯

check_circle The Greek word "tetelestai," spoken by Jesus on the cross a powerful expression often understood as "paid in full" or "fully accomplished."

Many Christians have read passages like these for years without recognizing what they're seeing. Not because they lack faith. Not because they lack desire. But because no one ever gave them the foundation needed to understand the deeper context behind the text.

      ⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯

You can keep reading the text.

Or you can finally see the context.

      ✦ HOW WE COMPARE

Why So Many Christians Give Up

      on Bible Study

Most Christians don't struggle because they lack faith. They struggle because they lack context.

      • Rigid Reading Schedules

Miss a few days and it's easy to fall behind. Before long, catching up can feel overwhelming.

      • Dense Commentary

Helpful information, but often difficult to digest. Many readers end up feeling more confused than confident.

      • Out-of-Context Verses

Inspiration without understanding the bigger picture. A verse can mean much more when you know its context.

      • Information Without Connection

Lots of facts, but little context to tie everything together. Understanding grows when the pieces connect.

        The Faith Roots approach

One book. One page. One clear framework.

Understand the context, themes, symbolism, and message behind every book of the Bible at your own pace.
